The JAMA Network Tobacco Control Collection  - Summaries of key articles

This is a curated series of research articles, editorials, and reviews focused on tobacco use, prevention, control policies, and health outcomes related to tobacco products. Nuestras Voces Adelante Network program provides summaries of selected articles from the August 2024 JAMA Network Collection issue, covering topics such as electronic cigarettes and vaping among adults and youth, nicotine and e-cigarettes, and effectiveness of cessation tools. The aim of this resource is to advance the understanding of tobacco use and provide evidence-based insights for tobacco control professionals engaged in reducing the burden of commercial tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.

State-level Tobacco Disparities Dashboard

prevalence of cigarette smoking among adults in the United States, comparing adults aged 18-24 with adults aged 65 or older from 2011 to 2022. The data is presented in a bar graph and a map. The graph shows that the prevalence of cigarette smoking among adults aged 18-24 has been declining since 2011, while the prevalence of cigarette smoking among adults aged 65 or older has remained stable. The map shows that the prevalence of cigarette smoking among adults aged 18-24 is highest in the Midwest and South, while the prevalence of cigarette smoking among adults aged 65 or older is highest in the Northeast and West.

The Tobacco Disparities Dashboard is an intuitive visualization platform, allowing for the quick exploration of cigarette smoking prevalence and identification of related disparities in states by age, disability, education, employment, income, mental health, race, ethnicity, sex, urban, and rural. The dashboard enables users to analyze data to identify opportunities for improvement and accelerate data into action to reduce cigarette smoking among specific groups.
